When it comes to coffee table books, there are few that we love more that Charlotte Moss: A Flair For Living. Not only is it a HUGE book that makes a statement wherever you place it, it is packed with inspiration from one of the country’s finest designers. Here are a couple of the beautiful pictures from the interior.

Things We Love: Hammocks

Things We Love: Hammocks

There is nothing more comforting or relaxing than spending a lazy day daydreaming in a hammock. Whether you’re by the pool, beside the ocean or simply in your own back yard, a late afternoon nap in a hammock is nothing less than restorative.

What’s even better is that, on top of being a mini-vacation, these hammocks are fantastic looking and can serve as a crucial design element in any outdoor space. This pool area, designed by Alberto Burckhardt and photographed for Veranda, gets a punch of color from a bright orange hammock, similar to the Texsport La Paz Hammock.

This vibrant lounger provides another seating area in an outdoor space and costs way less than another rattan chair. In fact, the Texsport La Paz will set you back less than 20 bucks at Amazon.

Things We Love: Hammocks

There’s nowhere that calls for a hammock more than a beach house porch, like this one, from the Coastal Living idea house. We love how the designers stuck with a traditional rope hammock, adding excitement with nautically inspired, red and white pillows. The classic Original Pawley’s Island Hammock Presidential is hard to beat if you’re looking for that basic, hold-up-in-any-weather hammock.

We might not all be able to have our own pier with a hammock over the ocean, but we can all have our own hammock that’s the colors of the sea — and for a steal! We found the fabulous blue and white stripe hammock, similar to the one above photographed by Colleen Duffley for Coastal Living.

This blue and white stripe hammock and accompanying pillow will cost you only $22.94.

Designer Linda Garland picked a sophisticated hammock with fabulous, crocheted fringe for this porch overlooking a lake, featured in Architectural Digest. When you want to go with a classic, natural color hammock, but need a little more formality something similar to Garland’s hammock, the Deluxe Mayan Hammock, offers a similar fringe.

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Furniture

Nothing brings the feel of the islands to wherever it is you live like the casual chic of natural fiber furniture. This home designed by Dick Fallin, featured in Architectural Digest, actually is in the islands and features rattan lounge chairs with comfy-looking cushions. You can bring the look to your living room with this Donut Rattan Lounge Chair. Now, if only Amazon sold that view.

This Architectural Digest room, designed by Scott Snyder, is an example of how natural fibers (and a pineapple here and there!) can lend a casual feel to your other furniture. The one rattan chair Snyder uses, similar to the Padmas Plantation Polo Occasional Chair, gives a beachy feeling to this room.

In fact, we actually like the chunky fibers and delicate legs in this round-back chair better than the one in the room! This occasional chair would look great anywhere.

This beautiful room by Robert Trachtenberg, photographed for House Beautiful, uses a natural fiber backdrop to create a neutral, serene palate and adds a punch of interest with the red pillows. While the accessories are really what define this room, it couldn’t come together without the oversized rattan chairs. These similar Cabana Banana Chairs are a super budget-friendly way to get this look for less.

TableTop Tuesday: An Affair With a House

An Affair With a House

Tabletop Tuesday: An Affair With a House

Let’s face it. When it comes to decorating, there are places you can save and places that you must spend. The tables in your home are likely going to be something you splurge on, as you’ll probably keep them for years. But the items on the tabletop? Why spend more than you must?

One of our favorite ways to incorporate great style into the flat surfaces in your house is beautiful coffee table books. Not only do they look fabulous, but they are also a pleasure for you or your guests to browse through — and an even better place for you to get design inspiration.

An Affair with a House the Porches

Tabletop Tuesday: An Affair With a House

There are thousands of great coffee table books out there, but there is only one An Affair With a House. The classic home book, featuring renowned designer Bunny Williams’ 18th-century Connecticut home, is second to none. If you are only going to buy one book, this is the one. While her taste is impeccable, her designs are still approachable, classic and attainable — even for someone on a budget.

An Affair With A House Library

Bunny’s library, for example, is elegant but livable at the same time. You can tell she actually sits on that couch and reads the books in those shelves.

The pool houses is one of our favorite spots in the Williams’ home. Can’t you just picture lying on one of those chaises sipping a mint julep?

We bought ours on Amazon and look at it all the time. So can you!

Natural Fiber Blinds

Bamboo Blinds

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Blinds

If you want to keep the glare out of a room but aren’t a fan of vinyl’s smell or plantation shutters’ price, natural fiber blinds are a great way to keep the sun out and the style in.

In this room, featured in Coastal Living, the bamboo shade coordinates with the sisal rug and adds a “pop” of color and interest to the window in a room that really doesn’t have the space for curtains, rods or cornices. You can achieve the same look with this Tropical Rustic Bamboo Roman Shade.

Bamboo Shades
Things We Love: Natural Fiber Blinds

This is another example of a room with tiny windows and no space for curtain rods. Adding bamboo shades like these gives the room a finished look. You can find a similar shade to this one, featured in Traditional Home, in the Mandelhi Bamboo Roman Shade.

Wood Blinds

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Blinds

Kitchens are one of our favorite spots for natural fiber window coverings. Because they tend to be bright, light, airy spaces, with few deep, dark colors to ground them, the shades add depth and warmth to what can become too clean of a space to be welcoming.

Plus, they roll almost all the way up, so they don’t block the sun that you want from streaming through. The room above, featured in Southern Accents and designed by Suzanne Kasler, has blinds similar to these Radiance Imperial Matchstick Rollups Shades.

The room below, designed by Barbara Berry and photographed for Architectural Digest, is another example of a similar shade used in a kitchen.

This bright, cheerful living room, photographed in Traditional Home blends several different shades of wood, and bamboo blinds on the French doors and windows tie the shades of wood and yellow accessories nicely. These Laguna Bamboo Roll-Up Blinds offer a similar color tone and a super-fun texture.

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Baskets

May 5th, 2010 § 2 Comments

This Hamptons home was featured in Architectural Digest and designed by Thad Hayes.

If there’s one thing we can’t get enough of, it’s stylish storage space. From stashing papers to stowing dirty laundry to concealing toys, natural fiber baskets are double-duty players when it comes to hiding your junk and displaying your good taste. They’re easy on the earth, easy on your wallet and go with every decor in any room. From the bathroom to the kitchen, there’s a place for natural fiber baskets in every space. Check out these beautiful ways to incorporate baskets into your design.

Baskets

Things We Love: Natutal Fiber Baskets

What better place to use natural fiber baskets as storage than in a boys bunk room? Savoie Architects must have had Mom in mind when they created this under-bunk storage space. These baskets mean that the boys can still stash their essentials (or dirty laundry) under the bed — but in a much more stylish fashion. This room was featured in Traditional Home.

We love the the variety of great baskets for great prices at Bellacor. For a similar look to the one pictured above, this set of rattan baskets does the trick without breaking the bank.

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Baskets

Even if you aren’t into African inspired rooms, you can still take a note from designer Juan Montoya by using baskets as wall decorations. They’re relatively inexpensive and offer a three-dimensional pop to walls that could be bland otherwise. This room was featured in Architectural Digest.

If you’re looking to add some culture to your room, check out For African Art. The Agelgel basket below is one of our favorites.

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Baskets

In this bathroom, featured in Southern Accents, designer Mona Hajj took advantage of an attractive natural fiber basket to store extra towels right beside the bathtub. The rich color of the basket also gives depth to the clean white palette she used. For a similar look, check out this great laundry basket from Bellacor.

kitchen storage and display

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Baskets

We love how the natural fiber baskets in this kitchen, featured in Coastal Living bring the rich color of the floor up to the countertop. While this kitchen certainly isn’t short on cabinet space, the owners have still taken advantage of the additional storage baskets can provide — even over the refrigerator.

Get the look of this countertop catch-all with this adorable dough basket – again, it’s from Bellacor. See, we told you they had a lot of baskets!

Things We Love: Natural Fiber Baskets

In the Haslan House, designed by Elizabeth Corker and featured in Traditional Home magazine, natural fiber baskets serve not only as beautiful decorations but also as a practical place to store produce and plates. These Rattan Baskets and the Tag Seagrass Basket give a similar look and can really spice up your countertop.
